Definition:

The dreadful time between cases wherein an operating room is unavailable due to inappropriately prepared patients, unavailability of surgeons, insufficient nursing staff, anesthesiologists, or OR assignment to emergency surgery, congestion of the postanesthesia care unit, and delay in transport to the OR as well as surgical cases running longer than their scheduled time (spill-over).
