- Definition:
- An obesogen is a chemical compound, foreign to the body, that can disrupt normal development or homeostasis (usually concerning metabolism and use of lipids, or fat) inducing obesity. Formally, they are a class of natural and synthetic chemicals known as endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). 'Obesogen' was originally coined by Bruce Blumberg, Ph.D. of the University of California, Irvine.
